Review: The Lookout

Joseph Gordon-Levitt = Finest Actor of Our Generation

“Out of Sight” and “Get Shorty” writer Scott Frank puts a spin on a tired genre: the heist movie. “The Lookout” is the story of Kansas City high school hockey legend Chris Pratt (Joseph Gordon-Levitt in yet another enthralling performance) four years after a car wreck disabled Pratt’s ability to think logically and linearally. He is befriended by a charming guy a few years older than him (Matthew Goode) who introduces him to a beautiful redhead (Isla Fisher) and some of his friends who will eventually enlist Pratt’s assistance in helping them rob the bank where he works as a janitor. Once the bank robbery plot kicks in, the movie isn’t as fresh or original, and it’s also hard to overlook a pretty terrible and seemingly meaningless performance by Fisher. But outstanding performances by Gordon-Levitt and Jeff Daniels, as Chris Pratt’s blind caretaker, coupled with an amazing opening scene and exciting climax make “The Lookout” definitely worthy of checking out. –Josh
