  1. I’m a DBOW because I liked Black Snake Moan? That doesn’t make sense. BSM is like a long blues song, grappling with the urge to sin and be redeemed, and the contradiction that entails. I mean how else are we supposed to BUY Ricci’s redemption if we don’t see her sin. Like Funny Games didn’t show us violence, but that’s because there’s no redemption in the character’s actions. Showing us her full-blown desires and being very lurid and mysogynistic makes us root for her redemption. And I always felt that Jackson was a man who couldn’t control most aspects of his life, so decided to take charge–he makes questionable decisions but i think the motivations are pretty clear. That all being said, it resides in my 11-20 range for ‘07. The movie is not without its flaws, but I think the overall message is depicted pretty clearly.

  2. You commented on the most boring uninteresting part of the show! I listened to this show 4 times, and was officially won back as a listener.

  3. I commented on the part where I was called a douchebag unfairly. The rest of the show was hi-larious. I pulled up the emails but was afraid to open them at work.

  4. josh, if you know anything about the blues, i’ll eat my own balls.

since i DO know a bit about the blues, let me school yr sorry ass: the blues are based in everyday struggles. black snake moan would have been a FANTASTIC movie if it had simple focused on lazarus’s quest for redemption after his wife left. unfortunately, brewer had the wholly misguided, wildly offensive idea to portray his female protagonist as a cock-crazed slut physically incapable of controlling her insatiable hunger for penis. FURTHERMORE her character is so under-written and confused in its very conception that the viewer is completely incapable of empathizing with her - unless that viewer is a sadly deluded suburban buttboy willing to swallow any old shit being force-fed to him from a movie screen.

black snake moan is like the reality of southern life refracted through a jerry springer prism. and that’s fine. but brewer’s playing with fire when he introduces the psycho-sexual / abuse elements and then completely trivializes them by never fleshing the themes out - any sequence involving ricci, her mother, and the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father are an insult to actual victims of sexual assault. if you’re not going to be serious, then it’s best to leave these issues alone. the movie makes great validation for the hideous popular notion of trashy white girls unable to resist hard black snake - if you catch my drift.

in other words, i much preferred that OTHER sam jackson snake movie. at least that one knew it was a joke.

i was trying to honor you in your absence, josh. i’m sorry that you take everything the wrong way and consistently fail to see beyond the tip of your own woefully inadequate penis.

  6. Is that number right as of 11:33 on April 23rd? SIX downloads for this episode? People, listen to this epi, it’s funny.

  7. josh, quit revealing our numbers.

  8. It’s right there dude. It says Download (6) for EVERYBODY to see. We had gotten rid of that at one point, but I still think there’s an error because I’ve talked to at least 6 people who heard this episode so I think the numbers are off anyway.

  9. That 6 is direct downloads from this page josh, I don’t believe it reflects iTunes downloads. I possess the sole address responsible for our downloads via the server, direct hits to the actual audio files.

So stop your bitching you little dirty twats. We’ve had around 30-100 listeners and we still are in that range. Aren’t we awesome?
